$100,000 Donated Towards Tsunami Relief Efforts -- Instrumental Activity to Raise More Monies For the Cause
LOS ANGELES HARBOR, Calif. In light of Southeast Asia's tsunami devastation, Contessa Premium Foods Inc. used this year's
International Boston Seafood Show as a platform to build awareness for the much-needed financial aide required for the affected
countries. Contessa's booth displayed images of the devastation caused by the tsunami - before and after satellite pictures and relief
efforts to date. On-site was the Regional Director of Habitat for Humanity International, Douglas Stephens, who offered information
on the disaster and literature as to what their organization has done and plans to do in the coming months for the affected
countries. Donations to HFHI were accepted at the booth.
Contessa was an instrumental supporter of the IBSS and SPA Cocktail Reception and Tsunami Relief Fundraiser. The event was held on
March 13 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, where Contessa participated as a Platinum Sponsor donating $100,000. Contessa
President/CEO, John Z. Blazevich, presented a check for $100,000 to Douglas Stephens of Habitat for Humanity International
at the reception. The fund-raiser was promoted at the Contessa booth in an effort to build awareness and greater donation
activity. Mr. Blazevich's comments at the reception were inspiring and appropriate as he reminded seafood industry attendees
that "our livelihood revolves around the oceans... we take from it everyday and it's our duty and our responsibility to give
back." The applauds and praise were many, as the reception raised an additional $10,000 and continues to garner donations.
"Contessa's donation will go towards rebuilding 25,000 homes and businesses in the tsunami-affected countries," said
Blazevich. "Habitat for Humanity International is a worthy organization that will make that goal happen for the many victims
that have been left without homes and/or businesses."
Blazevich added, "We have decided to spend the money where it counts by being as minimal as possible at this years Seafood Show,
and hope that we have inspired others to support the cause. Just as we produce sustainable seafood, this year, we have shifted
our focus and awareness towards building sustainable lives."
Traditionally, Contessa's booth is known for the grandest of displays offering a variety of product sampling, entertainment,
sought after promotional giveaways, celebrity chef cooking demonstrations and book signings. For regular attendees of the
show, Contessa's minimal presence was immediately noticed. "By being minimal, we were more impactful in our mission to raise
awareness towards the cause" said Blazevich.
