Contessa Expands Its Popular Green Cuisine Meals Line to 31!

Four new exotic, authentic, restaurant-quality meals — Beef Bolognese, Vodka Penne, Jambalaya and Mongolian Beef — will leave consumers hungry for more.

December 10, 2007 - LOS ANGELES HARBOR, Calif.— Contessa Premium Foods has just added four unique new dishes to its Green Cuisine line that are flavorful, easy-to-prepare and ready in just eight to 12 minutes.

"Contessa meals offer an experience," said John Z. Blazevich, Contessa president and CEO. "The authenticity of the recipes allows you to experience the dishes as if you traveled abroad to the regions in which they originated. And now, with 31 meals to choose from, consumers can enjoy a unique dining experience every day of the month."

Each of the four new varieties comes complete with all the ingredients — perfect for the busy home chef, the novice chef or the value-driven consumer looking to create a delicious meal in minutes:
  • Mongolian Beef — a popular restaurant selection — features authentic flavors and ingredients including thinly sliced and tender beef, long-grain white rice, scallions, bok choy, onions, garlic and a sweet and savory garlic-soy sauce. The dish is spicy, but light, wholesome and fresh.

  • Vodka Penne is a unique and savory combination of tender white-meat chicken medallions, tomatoes, green peas and penne pasta in a creamy tomato-based vodka sauce. Vodka Penne is a sensational pasta dish that's sure to be a hit at the dinner table.

  • Jambalaya — a hearty Cajun classic — features a variety of slow-cooked premium meats, including shrimp, white-meat chicken, well-seasoned andouille sausage and full-flavored ham, along with celery, green bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic and onions over long-grain white rice. Topped with an authentic Creole tomato sauce, Contessa's Jambalaya has just the right amount of kick.

  • Beef Bolognese is a meat-lover's delight, combining three delicious ground meats — savory beef, sausage and pork — mixed with spaghetti noodles, tomatoes, carrots, onions and garlic in a tangy marinara sauce. Beef Bolognese is a hearty, satisfying traditional dish from Bologna, Italy.

Contessa enjoys a well-earned reputation for responding to the needs of its consumers by offering products that suit today's busy, healthy lifestyle. For example, everything needed to create and serve these sensational dishes is right in the package, but with a little imagination and a few items from the pantry or fridge, Contessa Green Cuisine meals provide unlimited options. Consumers may prepare the meal as shown on the package, come up with their own variations or try one of the recipes on the back of every package. For example, Jambalaya becomes Three-bean Cajun Chili with the addition of canned beans and tomatoes, half an onion, olive oil and chicken stock. If desired, adding a slab of warm corn bread and a green salad makes for a hearty, satisfying and healthy meal.

What's more, all of Contessa's Green Cuisine meals are trans-fat free, and separate sauce packets allow consumers to customize the flavor of the meals to taste or to adapt them to dietary needs. The meals now feature larger shrimp and more chicken, and enhanced packaging includes two sets of nutritional information — one for the meal with its accompanying sauce, and one without.

"Contessa doesn't offer products consumers should like — we genuinely listen to our consumers and develop products they need based on their comments and lifestyle trends. It is, after all, about consumer satisfaction," said Juliet A. Boghossian, marketing manager. "Consumers vote with their purchases. Based on our track record, I would say we've done an exceptional job translating their needs." Contessa meals have the strongest sustained category growth of any other brand.

Contessa Green Cuisine meals are available in the frozen grocery section at major retail supermarkets and club stores. At a price point of $6.99 to $7.99, and with up to three hearty servings each, they're a great value for anyone who appreciates flavorful, fine food, complete with all the ingredients.
