Saving the Planet, One Step at a Time.

Contessa believes environmental responsibility isn't a choice. It's a necessity. Our goal is to continue to find new ways to take care of the environment in every area of our business, for the long-term sustainability of mankind.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sustainable as, "a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged."

To Contessa, sustainable means that, and much more. It means being the most responsibly managed source of food available.

Contessa is leading the food industry by example. Here’s how:

Green Cuisine Plant
In the fall of 2007, Contessa opened the first environmentally responsible, LEED-certified frozen-food manufacturing plant in the world. The facility, its processes, and the products manufactured there are known as "Green Cuisine." Contessa's Green Cuisine plant is carbon neutral and so innovative that it was featured on "CBS News Sunday Morning" in a segment called "The Next Hot Invention."
Aquaculture
Contessa shrimp is raised through a process known as aquaculture — the cultivation of aquatic animals. Aquaculture is a sustainable, Earth-friendly way to feed the world.
Turtle-Safe
Contessa is, and always has been, 100 percent turtle-safe, and has never contributed to the harm of a single sea turtle. Still, we support wildlife and environmental efforts, including sea-turtle conservation projects.
Recycling
Contessa uses recycled and recyclable materials in its packaging, and recycles paper, materials and equipment in its operations and offices.
Probiotics
Contessa encourages the use of these "good bacteria" in shrimp farming to naturally improve water quality and to reduce the pollution level of outgoing water flow.
