Where We Began
Contessa Premium Foods was founded in January 1984. Contessa's President and CEO envisioned a company dedicated
solely to producing frozen seafood of consistent quality and value - something that did not yet exist in the
marketplace.
Founded with an initial investment of $10,000, Contessa rapidly became one of the largest importers, processors,
exporters, and distributors of farm-raised shrimp in the world. In addition to importing and processing top-of-the-line
shrimp and scallop-based products, Contessa pioneered the marketing of frozen stir-fry exotic vegetables.
As sales grew, Contessa quickly rose to the forefront as the quality leader in shrimp, scallops, and entrees.
Where We Are Today
Since its origin as an exclusive leader in premium seafood, Contessa has grown its portfolio
with its Value-added seafood, Convenience meals, gourmet stir-fry vegetables and more. Contessa imports,
processes, exports, and distributes its products throughout North America, Europe and Asia - and markets
to the retail, club, food service and private label channels. Contessa leads the industry by combining
convenience, value and unmatched standards of consistent quality - and has been awarded for those strengths
by the media, various agencies and organizations. Known as "America's Favorite Shrimp®," Contessa is one of
the top-selling supermarket brands in the country.
Where We Are Heading
In expanding growth, Contessa will increase our market share in retail outlets nationwide by continuing to supply food service and club channels. Contessa will increase sales in these arenas by remaining true to consistent quality and innovation. Contessa's retail line will likely include a more diverse selection of entrees.
