Food Safety & Quality Of Contessa Shrimp?

To our valued customers,

We understand the impact an inferior product can have on your health and overall food experience. Therefore, we wanted to reassure you of Contessa’s commitment to stringent quality and food safety standards. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any illegal chemicals or antibiotics used in shrimp aquaculture. We support this by vigorous self-imposed testing programs that we implemented decades ago at multiple levels of the harvest and production process. Upon routine inspections of our processing facilities by numerous international third party auditors, Contessa has consistently earned superior scores exceeding the highest industry standards. Years ago, in partnership with the USFDA equivalents from the Governments of Thailand and Vietnam, we developed and implemented a food safety and sustainability program to educate shrimp farmers on best practices.

To ensure consumer safety our shrimp are tested as follows:
  • At the source in Thailand and Vietnam, from raw material to finished product by in-house and internationally accredited third party laboratories.

  • During every part of the production process our overseas Quality Assurance staff ensures all products comply with Contessa’s Food Safety Criteria before release for shipment.

  • Upon arrival into the USA, our local Quality Assurance staff conducts verification tests of random shipments that are audited by local third party laboratories to verify all prior findings are 100% accurate.

Seafood is one of the safest and healthiest proteins available to consumers. In fact, according to the National Fisheries Institute, of all the major food recalls in the past decade, none have involved seafood. Contessa works extremely hard to earn your trust and we guarantee the utmost in food safety and quality in all of our food products. We thank you for your continued patronage.
